So You Want to Write a Musical? Let’s Start at the Very Beginning, or Don’t!

February 11, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am

Do you have an idea for a musical, but don’t know where to start? Which comes first: the book, the lyrics, or the music? How do you find collaborators? What are the differences between a musical, an opera, and a play with music? Once you have a script and score, how do you get people to see it and hear it and care about it? When does an orchestrator become important? How can you write strong, entertaining characters without perpetuating harmful stereotypes? All these questions and more will be explored in a Q&A style discussion. Bring your curiosity and your sparks of inspiration, along with a way to write/type things down.
